    WAR FILMS

War films often depict the horror and heartbreak involved in war, letting the actual combat fighting or conflict provide the main plot or background for the action of the film. These battles could be against nations or humankind. Usual elements in the action-oriented war plots include POW camp experiences and escapes, air battles, personal bravery, espionage, "war is hell" brutal scenes, submarine combat, trench/infantry accounts, or male-bonding buddy adventures during wartime. A popular sub-genre war films in the 1950s and '60s was the prisoner of war film (POW).

A recent film in this genre is Hart's War. It is a World War II prisoner of war based on a novel by John Katzenbach. Starring Bruce Willis, Colin Farrell and Terrence Howard. The film, directed by Gregory Hoblit, was shot at Barrandov Studios in Prague, and released on 15 February 2002(US), 24 May 2002 (UK).
